Where an e-bike takes you
With up to 60 miles of range you can do the whole island in a day without thinking about the battery: north to Fort Clinch State Park and its 1847 fort, through historic downtown Fernandina Beach and Centre Street, down the Amelia River to Sea Trail, and back along Fletcher Avenue with the ocean on your left. Most rental e-bikes on the island stop around 30 miles, which is roughly one of those trips.
How pedal-assist works
You still pedal; the motor adds a push. Pick a level from eco to turbo on the handlebar display and the bike matches your effort. Hills, headwinds and the afternoon heat stop being a factor. First time on one? We'll set you up in the lot and you'll have it in two minutes.
Rules of the road
E-bikes ride on roads, bike lanes and the paved trails, not on the sand. Florida treats them like bicycles: no license or registration needed. They're Class 2 e-bikes, fully street-legal in Florida, with pedal assist and a throttle up to 20 mph. Riders must be 18 or older, one rider per bike, and there's no child seat option on the e-bikes; kids ride with you on a cruiser. Helmets are included and we ask everyone to wear one. Our fleet is certified to UL 2849 and UL 2271, the safety standards for e-bike electrical systems and batteries, so the bike you're on and the charger in your rental have passed the same fire-safety testing that cities and insurers look for.
Walk in or reserve
We're the only shop on Amelia Island where you can walk in and leave on an e-bike with no reservation. In season they go fast, so a quick online reservation or a call to (904) 310-6124 holds yours. Delivery to your rental is the same price as pickup and is booked ahead.
Questions about this rental
Do I need a reservation?
Not for pickup. We're the only rental on Amelia Island where you can walk in and leave on a bike or e-bike the same day. Delivery, beach set-ups and bonfires are booked ahead so we can plan the drive. In season the e-bikes go fast, so reserving online or by phone guarantees yours.
What's included with a bike or e-bike?
A helmet, a lock and a storage bag. We'll fit the bike to you and, for e-bikes, walk you through the controls before you ride off.
Do you deliver?
Yes. Bikes, e-bikes and boards are the same price picked up at the store or delivered to where you're staying on the island. Chair and shade combos have their own delivery and set-up-on-the-beach rates.
Do you deliver to the Omni Amelia Island Resort and the Plantation?
Yes, every day. We deliver bikes, e-bikes, boards and chairs to the Omni hotel, the Ritz-Carlton, Summer Beach, and the villas and vacation rentals throughout Amelia Island Plantation on the south end of the island, and we pick everything up when you're done, for the same price as walking into the store. We have gate access, so there's nothing to arrange at the entrance: tell us where you're staying when you book and we'll call to set a delivery time. The Plantation's shaded bike paths and the beach along the resort are some of the best cruising on the island, so you can ride straight out of your door.
How far can I go on one charge?
Up to 60 miles on a full charge at normal assist, more if you go easy on turbo. That's the longest range of any rental on the island. Multi-day rentals come with the charger.
Is there an age limit?
Riders must be 18 or older, one rider per bike. There's no child seat for the e-bikes at the moment; kids ride with you on a regular cruiser with a child seat, tag-along or trailer.
What class are the e-bikes?
Class 2: pedal assist plus a throttle, topping out at 20 mph. That makes them fully legal on Florida roads, bike lanes and paved trails with no license or registration.
What's your cancellation policy?
Cancel at least 48 hours before your rental starts and we refund 75%. Inside 48 hours there's no refund. Call (904) 310-6124 to cancel or reschedule; moving your dates is free with 48 hours' notice.
